This science-focused EFL lesson plan is designed to help young learners review known fruits and vegetables and to consider which parts of the plants they are. This lesson would work very well after previous lessons on either food or the natural world. Learning about these different parts of the plants is then consolidated with a fun activity of planting their own fruit/vegetable seed in class and writing instructions on how to take care of it at home.
For the seed-planting activity I've used cucumber seeds as I normally teach this around spring-time, perfect cucumber planting season here in Spain! They're also very easy to grow even for complete beginners and those without any outside space - they're happy enough on a windowsill. I teach in a city where most children do not have access to a garden or the opportunity to grow plants from seed, so it was a lovely experience to bring into our classroom; my students loved planting the seeds and helping each other to do so. We continued to talk about our seeds and their growth during subsequent classes for many weeks!
